Dog Friendly Things To Do Near Us

With more than 1200 miles of trails within easy reach, Norfolk is the ideal area to take your dog for a luxurious stroll. The area features a range of landscapes that are a great deal more exciting than your garden for your furry friend to explore! From the Fens in the west to the Brecks and Thetford Forest in the south, all the way to the Norfolk Coast Path in the east. So venture outside and take advantage of everything this lovely county has to offer! Our quaint rooms will make your dog feel like they're in a home away from home with all the comforts they need to relax after a long day of sprinting, swimming, and sniffing.

With plenty of room and sand dunes, the North and South beaches in Heacham are excellent destinations for dogs. However, Old Hunstanton, with its miles of undisturbed sand and complete lack of limitations, is perhaps the best location, with dog walkers taking their pooches for walks there all year round. The navigable rivers and lakes that make up the Norfolk Broads are referred to as "Britain's Magical Waterlands." They are a must-see for anyone visiting the county, and they are dotted with canine-friendly tearooms and pubs along the rivers, allowing you and your canine companions to enjoy the stylish beauty of the Broads together.

Bird Watching Holidays on the North Norfolk coast

    Bird Watching Holidays in Norfolk

North Norfolk is an excellent destination for bird-watching holidays and weekend breaks. This region of East Anglia is home to some of the most beautiful coastlines in the county, as well as the Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve, which makes for excellent bird viewing possibilities. If you'd like, you can take a tour of Wild Ken Hill and enjoy birdwatching along the coastline!

There are various RSPB Reserves nearby, some of which are Titchwell Marsh in Brancaster, which is located to the north, and Snettisham Reserve, which is located close to Hunstanton. The guesthouses that we provide are perfect for bird-watching holidays, as many of them are close to RSPB bird reserves.

Because of our position, there is no need to travel very far in order to observe some of the amazing bird species that can be found in our region. Norfolk is the ideal location for those who wish to view birds in the countryside as well as along the coast.

    Cycle Through the Norfolk Broads

This area is also ideal for those looking for a Cycling Holiday, with a variety of cycle routes to suit all ages and abilities, from the gentle coastal paths to more challenging routes through the Broads National Park.

There are many companies that offer Cycling tours in North Norfolk, so it is worth doing some research to find one that best suits your needs. Most companies will provide you with a bike and helmet, as well as maps and route information. Some also offer guided tours, which can be a great way to see the area if you are not familiar with it.

When planning your trip, consider how long you want to cycle for each day and what kind of terrain you would like to ride on. You should also think about whether you want to stay in one place or explore different parts of the county. If you are new to cycling, there are plenty of resources available to help you plan your trip and stay safe on the roads. The National Cycle Network website has details of cycle routes nearby, as well as advice on planning your journey and staying safe while cycling so you can return to your lodgings safe and sound at the end of the day.

Choosing a place to stay that is both fun for small children and also appealing for parents is not always easy. So, we've made it simpler with our kid friendly holiday accommodations. There are many activities and attractions near us which are ideal for both children and adults, so you can be sure that everyone in the family will have a great time. For example, you could visit one of the many beaches where there are plenty of opportunities to build sandcastles, paddle in the sea or explore rock pools. Or, if you would rather stay on dry land, then why not check out some of the attractions in Hunstanton? Between the arcades, crazy golf course, SEA LIFE Centre, Rainbow Park, and more, there are plenty of things to keep the kids busy nearby!

When it comes to finding somewhere to eat out, again there is plenty to offer families. There are child-friendly pubs and restaurants all across the county serving up delicious food that both kids and adults will love. After a busy day exploring everything that the surrounding area has to offer and wearing out the kids along the way, you can relax knowing you'll come back to your cosy child-friendly guesthouse to get them settled down for bedtime!

    Rural Fishing Trip

Our coastal B&Bs are perfect for fishing holidays and short breaks. The coastline here is world-renowned for its fishing, whether it’s sea angling or freshwater fishing you’re after. There are many different species of fish to be found in the area including bass, cod, mackerel, and flatfish. The best time to fish is usually between April and September.

There are numerous charter boats available for hire if you don’t have your own boat. These can be booked through local tackle shops or online. Many of the charter boats offer guided trips with experienced skippers who know all the best spots.

If you'd rather fish from the shore, there are many good, secluded spots along the coast. Some of the best areas include Holkham Beach, Hunstanton Beach, Brancaster Beach, and Wells next the Sea. Just make sure to always check tide times before heading out, because some beaches can become cut off when the tide comes in.

A fishing license is required if you intend to fish in freshwater. You can get one from the Post Office or online from the Environment Agency. However, you don't need a license for sea angling. There are many good bait and tackle shops where you can buy everything you need for a successful day’s fishing.

It's this way of thinking that we hope to imprint on all who pass through our corner of the world which will help to ensure the protection of our precious countryside and the wildlife that live here.

    The Seashore Code

    Show Respect For Seashore Creatures

Seashore creatures are fascinating and have found special ways of living in their environment. They have to adapt to survive the rigours of wave-action, exposure and predation. Some have shells for protection, but many need to hide under rocks, seaweed or in the sand.

Exploring The Seashore Is Fun, But Please Remember:

    • Leave animals where you find them.
    • Take care when touching soft-bodied animals - they are very delicate.
    • Carefully lift and replace any rocks you may have moved - there are animals underneath which need them for shelter.
    • Leave attached seaweed in place - there is plenty lying loose on the strand line.
    • Do not trample through rock pools.

    Take Photos, Not Living Animals

    • Shells come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Many still contain living animals, even if they do look 'dead'. If you want to collect shells, please make sure they are empty before taking them home.

If you want to buy a souvenir:

    • Buy a photograph, book or poster of colourful marine creatures rather than shells, coral, starfish and urchins or other 'marine curios'. Remember 'curios' would almost certainly have been alive, when collected. If we don't buy them, the shops won't sell them.

    Avoid Disturbing Wildlife

You can see many animals at their best when they are behaving naturally. This is true for animals such as seals, otters and seabirds, as well as rock pool animals. To avoid disturbing wildlife:

    • It is best to watch from a distance, through binoculars if possible, especially if the animals are nesting, or pupping in the case of seals.
    • Keep your dog clear of birds and other animals.
    • Remember, it is now illegal to disturb or harass many species of birds and animals.

Take Your Rubbish Home With You

Beach rubbish is unsightly and can be dangerous to sea creatures. Much of the litter on our shores comes from tourists, shipping, fishing vessels and sewage outfalls. You can help to reduce this problem when visiting the coast:

    • Take your rubbish home - burying it is no solution.
    • Keep your dog from fouling the beach.
    • Report canisters or drums that may be washed up on the beach, but do not touch them.
    • Take part in BeachWatch - the annual beach clean and survey organised by the Marine Conservation Society, or Adopt-a-Beach - a regular survey of beach litter.
    • Bag It and Bin It, Please Don't Flush It - bag and bin all plastic bathroom waste such as cotton bud sticks.

    Watch Where You Go

Beaches and sand dunes are prone to erosion and easily damaged by people and vehicles. To help protect the coast:

    • Keep to established paths and dune boardwalks.
    • Park in designated car parks and keep access to footpaths clear.
    • Do not use beaches or dunes for scrambling motorcycles or other 'off-road' vehicles.
    • If you dig holes in the beach, please fill them up again.
    • Leave pebbles and rocks on the beach rather than collect them for your garden.

    Be Careful!

All cliffs are unstable and potentially dangerous, yet they are an impressive sight and from the cliff top it is possible to enjoy a panoramic view of the coastline. Cliffs also provide a very specialised habitat for the plants and animals that live on them.

    Take Care Near Cliffs:

    • Remember that it is dangerous to climb up or go near the top or bottom of a cliff.
    • Please don't throw or push anything over the edge of cliffs. As well as being dangerous, it can increase the rate of cliff erosion and kill or disturb wildlife.
    • Play safe on the beach too: Check tide times to avoid being cut off. Keep away from soft sand and mud - it is easy to get stuck!
